Dan Trachtenberg to Direct Y: THE LAST MAN

I’ve been a huge fan of the Revision 3 produced, The Totally Rad Show, right up until the very last episode, which aired only a month ago. So when I heard the news about Dan Trachtenberg, one of the presenters on the show, was hired to direct Y: The Last Man, I couldn’t be happier.

Y The Last Man is the dystopian science fiction comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo beginning in 2002. It focuses on the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. The 60-issue series was repackaged in book firm and the series won five Eisner Awards.[via Deadline]

Dan came to the attention of the Hollywood scene, when he created his own short film inspired by the Portal gaming franchise, called Portal: No Escape, that went viral soon after. The seven minute film was shot over the course of 18 months, for just a few thousand dollars, and helped put Dan on the map. Also getting the thumbs up from Portal makers Valve, who published the video on their facebook page. So that just goes to show that if you want to get noticed as a film-maker, you better get on with it and make something that sells your potential, instead of just waiting around for someone to discover you.

On the Totally Rad Show Dan would always be set various challenges to ‘Man himself up’ by the other, more senior presenters, Alex and Jeff. I’ve included the clip below, from one of the Dan Becomes a Man series, to illustrate the type of shenanigans they got up too and also to allow me to chime in and say that yes….Dan truly has become the MAN today….Well done Dan, I’ll be following your career very closely.
