The Hollywood Reporter Round Tables for 2012

The Hollywood Reporter does a number of popular round table talks for both the film and TV industry, where they’ll put the top 6 people in their field, in the same a room to discuss their craft. With the Oscars looming next year and the critics choice awards done and dusted, THR decided to get the top Directors, Actors, Actresses and Writers together for an hour long informal chat. The discussions are always part entertaining, part informative and humbling to see. You can tell that all of them are interested to hear stories from each other, with a good mix of ages around the table.

Here is the Directors round table with: Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained), David. O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook), Ben Affleck (Argo), Ang Lee (Life of Pi), Tom Hooper (Les Miserable) and Gus Van Sant (Promised Land).

Here is the Actors roundtable (pictures above) with: Alan Arkin, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, John Hawkes, Matt Damon, and Richard Gere. Although it is odd that there is no Daniel Day-Lewis??

Here is the Actresses round table with: Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, Sally Field, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Helen Hunt and Marion Cotillard. Helen Hunt actually brings up a good point towards the end when she called out the THR interviewers for steering the conversation towards press coverage, ageing and “being a women in Hollywood”. She then asks the interviewers if they asked the same questions of the men….which makes you think, when you hold it up against the men’s round table – there is definitely a difference.

And finally here is the Writers roundtable with: Judd Apatow, Mark Boal, David Magee, Chris Terrio, Michael Haneke and John Krasinski.

There is also an Executives round table, but I cant really see the appeal in that, considering that a lot of the negative discussion from the actors, directors and writers comes from dealings with the studios.
