NSFW Sizzle Reel for Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER

A 4 min and 30 sec sizzle reel for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, which showed at the Cannes Film Festival, was released on YouTube today. In it we see lengthier versions of the clips shown in the previous three trailers plus some new ones. Although I’ve not seen The Master yet (it’ll only be released in the UK on Nov. 9th), I’ve heard that most of the scenes shown have been omitted from the final cut of the film. So there’s hardly any risk of spoiling the film.  So ultimately this extended trailer serves the purpose of giving us the opportunity to hear longer versions of Johnny Greenwood’s score, which isn’t really a bad thing. Maybe this time he’ll win the Oscar for best score.

“Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Thomas Anderson (the acclaimed director of, There Will Be Blood, Magnolia and Boogie Nights), this story stars Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) and Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line). Set in America in the years following World War II, a charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a faith-based organization and taps a young drifter (Phoenix) as his right-hand man. But as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the one time vagabond finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor. A truly one-of-a-kind drama, which promises magnetic virtuoso performances, the film marks the fifth collaboration between Anderson and Hoffman, following Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love.”
