AMERICAN PIE – ONE MORE SLICE

Today the trailer for the latest installment of the American Pie franchise, ‘American Reunion’, has been released. The first film in the series came out in 1999, just as all the Y2K hysteria began, and if this is supposed to be a high school reunion, then that would set the film in 2009? Assuming my knowledge of reunion math is correct….graduations year +10 years…who the hell knows, perhaps it’ll set the film up for some pre-Obama era jokes….does this mean it’s a period drama [insert Family Guy joke here].

The original American Pie cast from class of 1999 return to East Great Falls for their high school reunion. [IMDB]

I saw American Pie while I was still in high school, so this series resonated for me at the time, but now it’s just good to see the gang together for nostalgic reasons. I can remember the day, back in high school, when another kid told us the crazy plot lines in the movie, and we just couldn’t believe a word he was saying….”and then the guy fucks a pie…” – Note to kids of today, this was an early form of viral marketing, it was called word of mouth.

We couldn’t believe it until we saw it, so we made our way to the local cinema and witnessed the film, which defined the gross-out comedy for the next 10 years, and laughed our asses off. The follow up, American Pie 2 is arguably the ‘Empire Strikes Back’ of the franchise, with American Wedding not delivering the same spark as the first two.

They’ve managed to get the entire cast back for the original, which doesn’t seem that hard considering how low on the z-list they now reside. Apparently the Hollywood Reporter managed to get hold of the pay packets for each of the stars…

  • Jason Biggs – $5 million plus a small slice of first-dollar gross
  • Sean William Scott – $5 million plus a small slice of first-dollar gross
  • Alyson Hannigan – $3 million
  • Eugene Levy – $3 million
  • Chris Klein, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Natasha Lyonne, Jennifer Coolidge, Mena Suvari and Shannon Elizabeth -$500,000 to $750,000 plus the possibility of bonusing
  • Tara Reid – $250,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Tara Reid needs to find a new agent…
